This unit focuses on researches in the area of education and labour market, Agriculture and the environment, as well as health.
This unit undertakes research focusing on economic growth, international trade, financial market, inflation, unemployment, among others.
The Unit uses quantitative and qualitative methods to understand the impact of social problems on African countries economies. We focus on research in areas such as poverty and inequality; child labour and child marriage; migration, governance and climate change and other environmental issues. In all these, special attention is paid to gender and vulnerability issues.
2. Centre for Training and Development
This center provides relevant training and capacity building for individuals and organizations focusing on public policy research, monitoring and evaluation, project/programme cycle management among others. The unit also provides consultancy services to development organizations, relief agencies and private business.
3. Centre for Monitoring and Evaluation
This centre undertakes the monitoring and evaluation of both private and public policies and programmes/projects. Africa receives billions of dollars each year in the form of development projects/programme from donor agencies and international financial institutions. In addition, almost all countries in the continent are implementing various development projects/interventions and programmes with the hope of improving upon the lives of the citizens. However, there is inadequate quality monitoring and evaluation of these projects and programmes. To help fill this gap, AIDRE conducts rigorous and independent monitoring and evaluation of development projects/programmes in public and private sectors in Africa using experimental evaluation methods (randomized control trials), non-experimental evaluation methods (regression discontinuity design, instrumental variables, ,difference-in-differences, matching and propensity score matching) and mixture of both methods; as well as qualitative methods.
4. Centre for philanthropy
The centre provides funding in the form of small grants to support community development. AIDRE partners with donor agencies to raise funds for the purpose of providing financial support for individuals and institutions.
